Description:
Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the Dec. 1836 fire. Only about 2,000 of the almost 10,000 documents were recovered. Little is known about this patent. There are no patent drawings available. This patent is in the database for reference only.

“The object of this invention is to obviate the difficulty of removing the loading from the Rail-road carriage, in order to transport it from the termination of the rail-road, in a city, through its various streets.

For the mode in which this is to be accomplished, we refer to p. 237 of our last volume, where Mr. Sullivan has fully described it, in his communication on the subject of the “Baltimore railroad carriage.” ---The claim is, to the enabling of Railway carriages to leave the railway, and traverse streets and roads, by aid of the mechanical means aforesaid, whereby they may be drawn, guided, and conducted to any special destination, like other carriages; by the variable obliquity, thus temporarily given to the forward, or auxiliary, axle of the railroad carriage.”
