Vintage Machinery entry for Baxter D. Whitney & Son, Inc.
Description:
This spindle-shaper lubrication system uses a wick to provide a steady bearing lubrication to a sump, where a slinger throws up a mist of lubrication onto the bearings. In addition to the lubrication system, a treadle moves a wrench that holds the spindle from rotating when needed. The lubrication system of this patent was used for decades on all Whitney shapers and was an important factor in their success.
