Description:
A circular carrier for an adjusting ring can be positioned so that the movable jaw operates against faces on the end or side of the wrench frame. The main part of the frame is comprised of side plates with open space between them to allow for movement of the tail portion of the movable jaw. A spring connecting the carrier and frame moves the jaws toward their gripping position.

Corresponding British patent GB-188907272 was registered May 1, 1889.

Used in conjunction with the P.W. Lownes February 10, 1891 patent (no. 446,220 & British no. GB-189102421) in the LOWNES pipe wrench. The patent is noted in the specifications for a second Lownes patent (no. 588,751 issued August 24, 1897).
