Description:
"It is well known that the introduction of a small percentage of nickel in the alloy known as Babbitt Metal imparts thereto many excellent properties, and I accomplish this in a manner that not only imports a small percentage of nickel to the metal itself, but serves the double purpose of producing a readily saleable and attractive article.

"My invention consists of introducing a coin, such as the American five cent piece which is chiefly composed of nickel into the Babbitt mould, and then pouring the molten metal over the same until the mould is filled, thus covering the nickel or coin and embedding it therein." The idea was that the coin would not melt into the Babbitt but rather the Babbitt would pick up a small amount of nickel from the coin; the coin could be recovered and reused (spent) since the coin's appearance would be unchanged (no pun intended).
