Description:
The assignee was an umbrella maker, and the patent specification describes the machine as intended for "umbrella-sticks, canes, &c." An ad in the December 1888 issue of Scribner's magazine describes Wright Bros. & Co. as "Largest umbrella makers in the world. Established 1816."
