Description:
Before this patent, combination locks required separate dial-marks for entering the combination when unlocking and for entering the combination when setting the combination. The reason for separate marks is that if the same mark was used for both, the lock-dogs would fall into the wheel-slots when setting which prevents separate movement of the wheels. This patent covers a mechanism that provides a setting mode where the dogs are prevented from falling into the wheel-slots, and thus the same mark could be used for both functions.
