Description:
This is a predecessor to the famous Zerk fitting for injecting grease into a grease cup. Oscar Zerkowitz came to the United States in 1907 on the Lusitania, changed his name, and started inventing. In 1922 he invented a grease fitting that now bears his name. He lived until age 90 and reportedly was granted over 300 patents. We have only found 159 U. S. patents granted to him; perhaps the others were foreign patents. At the time of Zerk's death in 1968, about 20 billion zerk fittings had been made, and he was a very wealthy man.
