| The process is a series of dies and drop-forging operations performed upon a blank that was previously shaped by other forging or rolling operations not a part of the patent.
It seems likely that Collins used this process in their wrench manufacturing operations in the 1870s and 1880s.
Another DATAMP steward found an 1872 decision of the Commissioner of Patents which validated this patent and invalidated the Feb. 2, 1869 Candee and Taylor patent no. 86,361. The decision cited circumstantial evidence that Candee and Taylor had "pirated" their idea from observations of Chapman's development research. |
