Description:
Tap wrench with ratchet action and provision for having the handle "centered" or extending entirely to one side. An internal spring normally keeps the handle body engaged with the splined shaft holding the chuck; compressing the spring disengages the handle and allows it to be re-positioned. Unscrewing the top "button" allows the shaft to be completely withdrawn from the handle body, and then the rod handle can be set so either the center or end hole is used when the parts are reassembled.

It was featured on the front cover of July 3, 1913 AMERICAN MACHINIST. An early version of the ALERT RATCHET TAP WRENCH was advertised in 1911.
