"Vintage Machinery" entry for Gallagher Manufacturing Co.
Description:
This ratchet drill uses a grooved ball within a ring. The handle is attached to the ring, which has pawls that engage with the grooves on the ball which are longitudinal in extent and rectilinear in cross-section. One pawl is pushed forward and the other pulled back, which selects the direction of rotation. The advantage of this mechanism is that the handle can be at any elevation angle to the hole being drilled.
