Description:
A slide with a pin drives an internal shaft with a spiral slot. The end of the shaft carries a bevel gear which drives a corresponding bevel gear on the enclosed worm that moves the sliding adjustable jaw. The internal shaft with its spiral slot is protected by a secondary sleeve with a different pitch spiral slot so that the long opening in the handle is subtantially closed.

A wrench corresponding to this patent and marked "SPEED GRIP AUTOMATIC MF'D FOR SCHLOTE BROS. MADE IN GERMANY" has been observed.

The design is clearly related to Royal H. Schlote's Aug. 17, 1948 patent (no. 2,447,094) which was produced as the SCHLOTE AUTOMATIC.

The secondary sleeve feature appears in the "CRESCENT(TM) RAPIDSLIDE(TM)" marketed in 2006 by Cooper Hand Tools, and based on design patent D524,126.
