Description:
The adjusting worm runs against a concave threaded rack cut in the main shank. The adjusting worm rides in a pair of slots with compression springs, which allows the worm to be disengaged from the rack for quick as well as screw-adjustment.

Corresponding British patent GB-187803994 was registered Oct. 9, 1878; German patent DE-5692 was granted in the name of Isaiah Smith Hyatt who gave his address as Paris.
