Description:
XC patents are Canadian patents issued between 1824 and 1869. The patent image was found in the 1860 book, "Patents of Canada, from 1824 to 1849", published by the Canada East's Bureau of Agriculture and Statistics.

Inventor Gillett was also granted a US patent, 3,382, for a shingle machine. That patent gives his resident as Bloomfield, MI. We suspect that he was an American who moved to Canada West only long enough to apply for a patent. At that time only Canadian residents were allowed to apply for patents.
