Description:

This steam-powered boring and drilling machine was intended to drive augers. It is a curious invention because driving an auger through wood was not nearly as difficult as drilling or boring a sizeable hole in metal, and would not seem to be worth the effort to apply steam power. The invention was also described as suitable for powering a screwdriver, which seems even more unlikely.
