"Vintage Machinery" entry for Waterous Engine Works Co.
Description:
The inventor was a machinist. "The object of this invention is to secure a more uniform thickness of shingle, and as it is very often the case that an unsound knot or other defect is found at or near one end of the single block, which, if cut in the usual way, would make all those shingle bad which had the defect in the butt end, or at least of second quality, but by being able to change the alternating to a continuous set of either end of block to saw, so as to leave the defect in the point end of shingle, it very often makes a first quality shingle."
