Description: |
The opening is adjustable. The ratchet head is attached to the handle by a spring band. The pawl is a "T" shaped piece held between the handle and the spring band. The patent describes some alternate forms for the size adjustment.
The comparable Canadian patent is no. CA-19,852 issued July 19, 1884.
Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" notes an 1885 product announcement that implies Combs produced the wrench in a form somewhat different than shown in the patent drawings. |
