Description:
The patent is for the cutters made of hard steel that insert in mortises in the body of the pliers. Listing in an 1893 Niagara Stamping and Tool Co. catalog for "STEVENS PATENT" nippers, and listings in other tool catalogs of the period for "ACME NIPPERS" indicate the patent was used, but do not identify the maker.

Stevens' May 20, 1884 patent (no. 299,033) covers another style of cutter in a different type of pliers.
