Vintage Machinery entry for Liddell Co.
Description:
The "portable" aspect of this boiler is that the boiler is designed to be assembled in a factory and moved, whole, to its final location. This was the "Improved New Era Boiler" as seen in an 1890 catalog from the Liddell Co. (which changed its name from "Liddell & Co." after this patent was issued but before 1890). The "Improved" part of the name refers not to any feature in this patent but rather to a design change that allowed the boiler to use standard fire bricks rather than custom.
