| The rights to this patent ended up with the Grant Anti-Friction Ball Co., which was acquired in 1893 by the Cleveland Machine Screw Co., which changed its name in 1902 to the Cleveland Automatic Machine Co. In patent 520,019 (1894), Robert Howard Grant added refinements to this Richardson grinding machine. In practice, the Richardson machine was used for the first grinding, then the balls were hardened and then the Grant patent machine was used for final grinding. This basic process was used for several decades. |
