Wm. P. Walter's Sons, a Philadelphia hardware and machinery dealer, features this "Fitzgerald Patent Clamp" on page 168 of their catalog No. 19.
"This clamp is intended for securely holding work of any shape while glueing.
Made of iron, with a spindle or shaft running through the frame at right angles around which the cord is drawn and on one end of which is a crank, while a ratchet wheel on the other securely holds the tension on the cord. By Drawing the cord through the clamp, the slack is taken up, when a half-turn of the handle will be sufficient to draw the cord firmly and tightly around the work, bringing the strain evenly on all sides.
It is one of those inexpensive tools, which is almost universal in its application and worth many times its cost to any woodworker." |
