The patent specification describes the inventor as a machinist."This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in pulleys for the transmission of power, and more particularly to that class of pulley commonly known as the wood split pulley; and the object of this invention is to construct the pulley preferably with a continuous web divided into two equal sections, to each of which is secured one section of a two part hub, constructed with a clamping flange, which is bolted or otherwise secured to the web of its respective section of the pulley, and means for locking together those hub sections..."The January 1894 issue of "The Canada Lumberman" features an ad for Cant Bros.'
