Description:
The side jaws are tightened by separate thumb screws or the like. The central spur is tightened by a crank handle. The tool's primary use is to hold countersunk headed wagon and carriage tire bolts. It could also be made to function as a nail puller or as a pipe wrench.

Known examples marked "SPRIGGS & TROYER BOLT GRIP PAT JUL. 7, 1891 LITTLE RIVER KANS" appear to have been hand-made. The crank handle and body of the tool are brass castings.
