Similar to the Forstner bit in principle, the primary claim of this patent is provide means for being able to remove the circular rim cutting edge for sharpening or replacement.

Unlikely to have been produced in significant numbers, as Adams applied for another patent (503225), altering key aspects of construction, before this patent was issued.
