Description:

This machine saws a blank big enough for two hoops side-by-side. The outside of each blank is planed and then sawn apart into two pieces. The sawn surface on each hoop is the inner face and is left rough. The whole machine can be operated by one person.

This invention has no assignee and we suspect that it was manufactured by Merritt Machinery Co. of Lockport, NY, as their "Trautman patent hoop machine". We do not know where "Trautman" comes from and there is no hoop machine patent granted to anyone named Trautman or Trautmann. The descriptions we have found of the Merritt "Trautman" machine closely matches the operation of this patent machine, and in addition the timing of the patent matches the 1895-1909 range of ads and articles for the Merritt machine.
