Description:
The patent is for the semi-circular dove-tail shaped joint. Although the patent is described as an improvement to patent no. 436,706, the overall form of the tool in the drawing for this patent is vastly different than in the earlier design.

A known example matching this design is marked "PATd SEPT - 16 - 1890" -- the patent date for 436,706.

It appears the jaw tips would fit the "U" shaped hose clamp shown in that earlier patent, and possibly the "continuous loop" type known as CALDWELL (based on patent nos. 190,728 and 191,026).
