Description:
The inventor was, by 1916, a partner in machine tool maker Leland-Gifford Co. At the time of this patent, Gifford was a recent (1896) graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His employment in 1900 is unknown but we could not find any evidence that he was on his own and manufacturing drill presses.
