Description:
A spring between the hinged handles opens the jaws; the connecting rod limits the distance the jaws can open. A socket sized to fit the axle nut fits between the jaws and is connected to them by the connecting rod.

In operation this wrench would be inserted between the hub band and axle nut, and grip the axle nut firmly for the initial loosening or final tightening. In between the jaws would be allowed to open enough to ride against the interior of the hub band to retain the axle nut within the wheel hub while the wheel was removed to clean and lubricate the axle.
