Description:
The shape of the handle and movable jaw are similar to Barnes' June 4, 1867 patent (no. 65,465). This patent addresses the linkage between the handle and movable jaw, and a tension spring which makes the wrench self-adjusting.

Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers, 1830-1930" shows an 1870 "Scientific American" listing which is the basis for the manufacturer attribution.
