Description:
This quick-adjust uses a spring-tensioned sliding jaw with very fine teeth inside that engage a matching rack on the back of the main shank. Examples of the nut wrench are known with the patent date, or marked "PAT APL."

Schwender's distinctively handled quick-adjust pipe wrench uses a similar arrangement with the rack inside the swinging frame. The pipe wrench is marked on the shank of the pipe jaw "M. SCHWENDNER READING PA. U.S.A." and on the handle "PAT APL*D WARRANTED"
