Description:
The shank is a hollow tube which serves as an oil reservoir. There is a spring-valve adjacent to the socket, and a cap on the end of the handle to re-fill the oil reservoir. It seems unlikely that a tube sufficiently strong to serve as a wrench handle would have any significant oil storage capacity.

This patent is noted in Ron Pearson's 1991 "Gristmill" article about the Oct. 27, 1874 MOORE combination axle nut wrench and oiler (pat. no. 156,370).
