Description:
Malleable iron carriage wrench. The patented feature is the "flared" handle segment on the socket end which will allow the wrench to be placed on the ground and hold a greasy axle nut off the ground without tipping over.

Examples designed for square and hexagonal axle nuts are extant. Most are marked more extensively than the examples in the 2nd image: "SUSQUEHANNA FERTLIZER CO. // OF BALTIMORE CITY MD. PAT MAY 2, 93" "H.S. ZOOK's VEHICLE WRENCH // PAT MAY 2 1893 BLUE ROCK PA. Z" etc.
