Vintage Machinery entry for The Stanley Works
Description:
This elegantly simple "awl handle" was manufactured by Stanley as a tool handle with a collection of 12 or 20 interchangeable tips (awls, screwdrivers, gouge, chisels, saw). Stanley made a boxwood-handled version between 1867 and 1902, and a cast-iron version between 1877 and 1922.

A reported example is marked only with the patent date. It is about 3 1/2 inches long and made entirely of metal.
