Vintage Machinery entry for Stilwell-Bierce & Smith-Vaile Co.
Description:
In older styles of water-wheels, wooden bearings were used, with water as lubricant. This invention addresses the need for higher-speed water-wheels which require better bearings and lubrication. Metal bearings lubricated by oil are confined to a separate chamber where pressure is used to prevent water infiltration.
