Description:
Abstract:

A centreless machine for grinding spherical articles, for example, balls for bearings, consists of a bed 1C carrying a grinding-wheel 14 on an adjustable slide 11, a regulating-wheel 27 on an adjustable slide 24, and a second grinding-wheel 22 having a concave periphery mounted with its plane atright angles to that of the wheel 14 and with its periphery between those of the wheels 14, 27; the axis of the wheel 27 may be slightly inclined to the axis of the wheel 14. The balls 32 are fed from a hopper 34 down a tube 35 by a rotating star wheel projecting into the tube, and pass through the throat formed by the wheels into a receptacle 39. The wheel 22 may be adjustable vertically by means of wedge-shaped blocks engaging blocks carrying the bearings. Wheels.-The surfaces of the wheels 14, 27 are curved as at 40. Trueing rotating tools.-The wheels are shaped by trueing devices 41, 42, 43.
