Vintage Machinery entry for Thomas Elevator Co.
Description:
The mechanical movement is a linkage to connect a rotary shaft to a gear or clutch while allowing an angular advancing or retarding of their relative positions. It was primarily designed for use with a hoist to apply a friction band to the winding drum, but other applications were possible, such as to allow gears to be aligned for meshing before a clutch was released.
