The patent addresses a spring on a self-adjusting wrench covered by earlier patents no. 1,533,602 (April 14, 1925), and no. 1,634,908 (July 5, 1927), issued to Mead & E. E. Lynch. Depending on when they were manufactured, MASTERENCH self adjusting wrenches cite one or more patents; the current patent, the two mentioned in the specifications, and additional patents issued Nov. 1, 1932 (no. 1,885,616), and Jan. 21, 1936 (no. 2,028,406).
