May 1927 POPULAR MECHANICS ad for the PLIERENCH.
Description:
A couple of different gear arrangements to transfer motion from the lever handle to the movable jaw are shown and described, along with several alternate jaw forms. The general principles are to have a tool that will not work open during use, and that has controlled pressure to avoid crushing.

One of the forms in this patent evolved into the version shown in patent no. 1,862,817. Earliest production of the tool is marked with this patent date, and EIFEL FLASH PLIERENCH.
