JEFFREY MANUFACTURING COMPANY LOCK-JAW wrench in RAILWAY WORLD (scroll down))
Description:
The wrench has a square box opening on one end, and a hex box end on the other. Entrance grooves approximately 1/3 the total thickness of the hex wrench head are provided on the side and end of the hex wrench opening. This feature is alternately described as open ends at an angle or in line with the wrench shank, with a web between them. Jeffrey's subsequent patents (nos. 916,951 and 916,952) are "special applications" refining this patent. Known examples are multiple-size malleable iron wrenches marked JEFFREY LOCK=JAW.

April 16, 1909 "RAILWAY WORLD" (pg. 327) includes an advertisement for the JEFFREY Lock-Jaw track wrench, produced in Columbus, OH. No wrenches are pictured. The wrenches described in patent nos. 916,951 and 916,952 seem compatible with that application.
