Description: |
| The focus of this patent is the interposed spring which tends to close the movable jaws. The outside lever is to relax the spring tension when the self-closing feature is not desired.
The self-closing feature worked well until the spring failed. A few examples have survived the intervening decades. The shape and placement of the gear teeth were addressed in Larson's subsequent patent (no. 1,830,033).
