The pliers maintains roughly parallel jaws through a range of sizes. Both jaws are attached to one handle; one jaw is integral with the handle piece, the other is hinged to the handle piece. The second handle has two pivot points on opposite sides. One pivot point operates in a slot in the hinged jaw; the other pivot operates in a notched slot in the handle piece with the integral jaw.

The pliers was manufactured or distributed under a wide range of brand names.
