The specification is difficult to read, but here is what we have deciphered."Prepare linseed oil prepared by boiling a short time with quick lime and a small quantity of whole ???. Take four ounces of Gum ??? ??? ??? of ??? Turpentine. ... sugar of lead, which will congeal the composition in to a hard durable body. It must be applied to the wood or other substance immediately or it will grow so stiff as to be unable to spread it with a brush." When dried the coating is "polished with a pumice of yellowstone made fine". |
