| The patent is improvements to a class of adjustable pipe wrenches. The patent includes a replaceable bit or jaw face and its retaining means. The wear piece at the base of the adjusting nut is not mentioned. The slot for the shank of the movable jaw is wider at both ends than in the middle. The overall form of the wrench is very close to George E. Franklin's June 22, 1886 pat. (no. 345,777), although this patent does not make specific reference to the earlier one.
A 1905 ad for the FRANKLIN PIPE WRENCH produced by OIL WELL SUPPLY CO. of Pittsburgh shows a different form of replaceable jaw insert in the movable jaw. |
