The focus of the patent is the adjustment holding mechanism on the movable jaw. This patent and Frank W. Dent's January 7, 1902 patent (no. 690,407) were used in the Clutch Wrench Co, Waukesha, Wisconsin adjustable wrench.

Corresponding Canadian patent no. CA-67,634 lists Hatten and Chester E. Guernsey as patentees, and includes a pipe wrench version of the design.
