Description:
One focus of the patent is the spherical "collar" which is to sustain wear and keep the jaws in alignment, and related characteristics of the jaw pieces. Multiple "slots" in one jaw allow for re-positioning to adjust the size capacity of the jaws. A second focus of the patent is the hardened jaw face insert.

The patent notes the handle structure adopted from Casterlin's Dec. 5, 1899 patent no. 638,378.
