Bowker & Tripp Mitchell's Patent (FLICKR)
The central screw is both handle and adjustment means. A parallel rod keeps the jaws aligned. Contemporary hardware trade listings identify the manufacturer; the wrench is marked only with the patent date. Nine and twelve inch examples and a couple of minor style variants are known; it may have been made in other sizes as well.
