Description:
The tapered opening with one concave face and one toothed face would grip cylindrical objects. It was designed and patented with the Neverslip Horseshoe Calk in mind, as shown in the drawing. The wrench as produced includes the "IN" and "OUT" markings.

The horseshoe calk was the subject of design patent D27,542, also issued August 17, 1897.

Pat. No. 165,271 was produced and marketed as a horseshoe calk wrench; #s 796,305, 1,061,047, and 1,254,813 are later horseshoe calk wrench patents.
