Perkins Metalic Points
Elisha Perkins
Description:
Listed in A List of Patents Issued by the United States, from 1790 to 1847, 1847, pgs. 342 & 524.

Only about 2000 of the almost 10000 X-patent documents were recovered.

Because of the Patent Office fire in Dec. 1836, little is known about this patent. There are no patent drawings available. This patent is in the database for reference only.

The three-inch long "points", know as Perkins Tractors, was manufactured first in the U.S. from 1797 to about 1810 and sold for $25 for a set of two (one was brass and the other iron, which may have had a thin gold plating). After about 1810 they were also sold in England for five guineas. They were proved a fraud in 1799. Perkins was born in 1741 and died in 1810.
