Advertisement from the 1799/07/05 Newburyport Herald: "New improvement in ROPE MAKING. Michael Wigglesworth

"Having invented a new improvement in the art of Rope Making, and having obtained a Patent therefor, hereby begs leave to offer the same to the Rope makers in general throughout the United States, upon terms to be agreed upon between him and them. By this improvement the yarn is warped as fast as it is spun, of course the whole labor of winding up and warping off is saved, and a man can spin at least one quarter part more yarn in a day with less fatigue, then he can by the present method; as he is all the while employed in spinning by means of another spinning wheel placed at the lower end of the Walk for him to spin back again after four months experience can assure the public that one third of all the time and labor in spinning, winding up and warping off the yarn may be saved in a Rope Walk by adopting this improvement. Newburyport, July 5, 1799."
