Description: |
Adjustable compound leverage for the jaws accomplished by adjustable eccentric bearings. Replaceable jaw tips held firmly by bolts and "seats" in the jaw structure. The patent date appears on CHAMPION No. 82 nippers matching this design and produced by DeArment's Champion Tool Co. of Meadville, PA.
The CASTERLIN Hoof Trimmer available in 1902 was more clearly based on patent no. 707,822. CASTERLIN TOOL WORKS was advertising in Blacksmith & Wheelwright in the early 20th Century.
The provisions for compound leverage and replaceable jaw faces are similar to Casterlin's earlier patents for tongs (Pat. no. 638,378) and wrenches (Pat. no 791,245).
