| Description: | | This is considered by some to be the first machine gun, and the specification essentially claims it as such. But it is a flintlock and its design is more fanciful than realistic. Apparently a couple of examples were built, one that fired round shot that was intended for use against Christian enemies, and a second that fired bullets that were square in cross-section, for use against "the Muslim Turks...(to) convince the Turks of the Benefits of Christian civilization."This gun has a single barrel and multiple chambers. A crank is used to turn the barrel to the next chamber, the crank is secured to form a tight seal between chamber and barrel, the flintlock is primed and a trigger can then be pulled. In a test it was able to fire nine rounds per minute for seven minutes. Nearly a century earlier, the Kalthoff Repeater was able to fire much faster than this. | |
